Christy Jo L.

When Christy came to Goodwill she was faced with many challenges including homelessness, being a single parent, low self-esteem and having no income. She enrolled in Goodwill’s FOCUSED program, which helps individuals transition off of welfare. Christy excelled through the program and found employment with 7-Eleven. She immediately excelled and advanced in her positions with 7-Eleven, being promoted four times in two years. She looks forward to the opportunity to mentor new employees. Because of her success, Christy was invited to a closed door session with members of Congress to share her story. She one day hopes to own several 7-Eleven franchises.

Goodwill staff were very supportive of me and went above and beyond to help me stay focused. I am thankful for their support in helping me pursue my dreams.

Mary Joy B.

While in prison, Mary joined Goodwill’s SEETTS program, which offers job training and support for ex-offenders. Prior to being incarcerated, Mary raised a child on her own, was employed and earned her Master of Business Administration. She faced many challenges upon her release. Goodwill case managers assisted Mary in finding transitional housing and navigating health insurance options to ensure coverage. She also took computer and clerical classes and eventually landed a position as an administrative assistant. She aspires to become self-employed and open her own Bed & Breakfast.

I am thankful for the dedication, genuineness and sincerity of the Goodwill staff. Without their care and concern I would not have been able to succeed so far.

Tynisha B.

Tynisha was determined to make a change in her life. She enrolled in Goodwill’s STEP program, which assists individuals with psychiatric disabilities by providing employment assistance. Goodwill staff continually encouraged Tynisha during the program and watched as her confidence grew. Tynisha found a job as a lead child care teacher at a daycare center. She hopes to eventually work as an elementary school teacher or open her own childcare service.

I refuse to give up on myself and Goodwill really supported me during a difficult time. They were able to push me to succeed and help me find a job I love.

Ernie C.

As an older worker and an ex-offender, Ernie had trouble finding employment. His family often relied on him for support, which made it more difficult. He successfully completed Goodwill’s Transitional Work program and was hired full-time with Goodwill while also maintaining a part-time position with another company. During his time in training with Goodwill, Ernie was also able to purchase a vehicle. In his current position, Ernie is a hardworking, team player who wants to continue to grow and develop his skills for future promotions.

Goodwill has been able to help me out through various stages of my life. I am thankful for the opportunity to find employment and support myself again.

Gregory D.

Gregory came to Goodwill in 2011 with limited work experience. He originally enrolled in Goodwill’s Youth Merchandising program and upon completion, went through Goodwill’s Transitional Work program. He was hired full-time by Goodwill in 2012 and his dedication and positive attitude have helped him succeed. Since his hire, he has been promoted from processor to lead cashier to assistant manager. He takes pride in his achievements and is willing to assist with customer service, merchandising, operations and scheduling. Gregory has also able to obtain an Associate’s degree in Computer Networking and his driver’s license.

Goodwill has helped me move forward in my career and I am looking forward to working hard and achieving other goals I have set out for myself.

Ashley B.

Ashley came to Goodwill as a stay at home mom who was looking to re-enter the workforce after three years of not working. With an injured husband and children, she needed to find day care, transportation and refresh her job skills. She enrolled in Goodwill’s FOCUSED program and got the help she needed to find employment. She was able to reinvent her resume and interviewed with 7-Eleven. Within two years, Ashley has gone from sales associate to senior associate to assistant manager and is currently on the path to becoming store manager.

I am thankful to Goodwill for helping me get back on my feet after being unemployed. The skills I learned in their classes enabled me to land a new career that I love.

Jasmine A.

Jasmine decided to come to Goodwill because she wanted a career, not just a job. She successfully completed Job Readiness training and met with Career Services to begin her search for an opportunity that would support growth and advancement. She discovered Goodwill’s partnership with CVS Pharmacy for Pharmacy Technician training and enrolled in the program. She faced many obstacles along the way, but remained determined and persistent. In January 2015, Jasmine became employed as a Pharmacy Technician with CVS and became a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) in the state of Maryland. She recently celebrated her one year anniversary at CVS.

I love my new career and am excited about furthering my education in Pharmacy. I am grateful to Goodwill for helping me secure a fulfilling and rewarding career.
